The 2007 World Series of Poker will be a spectacle like no other. With over 55 Events on the schedule, what tournament should you choose? The following article will examine some of the things to consider when choosing what event to play.
Study the Schedule
The World Series of Poker will unravel over a six week period. There are fifty-five different tournaments to choose from. How many tournaments would you like to participate in? Do you have a preference as to what type of poker you would like to play? Some of the tournaments are played at the same time, although they do not begin at the same time. For example, if a no-limit holdem tournament begins at noon on a Tuesday, don't plan to enter a tournament that begins at five o'clock the same afternoon, unless you anticipate on being eliminated in the first two hours of a three day tournament. Study the schedule and try to have a game plan when at the WSOP.
What's Your Bank Roll?
How many tournaments can you afford to enter? This year, tournaments range from $1,000 to $50,000. Most of the tournaments are at least $1,500 to buy-in. The main event, like every year since the inception of the series, is still $10,000 to enter. Most of the re-buy tournaments cost $1,000 to enter, but be aware, in these types of tournaments players often spend thousands upon thousands of dollars before the end. Know your bankroll and use it accordingly as you enter tournaments.
Holdem or Something Else
Most of the tournaments are a form of Texas holdem, either no-limit or pot-limit. They range in buy-in price, anywhere from $1,000 to $10,000. The holdem events always attract the highest amount of players. This bodes well for prize pools, but the fields are a little harder to navigate because there are so many players.
Other variants of poker are viable alternatives for players who want to compete in smaller fields. Look for events testing a player's skills in Seven Card Stud, Omaha, Omaha Razz, and 2-7 Triple Draw Lowball. There are also mixed tournaments like the S.H.O.E. or H.O.R.S.E. events where a player must play many variants of poker. Know your poker strengths and choose your events accordingly.
If you haven’t already qualified for the 2007 WSOP, there are still satellites at several poker sites, such as Full Tilt Poker.
